About

Phil Morgan’s striking work is the ultimate in post-modern street art, taking well-known elements from worldwide pop culture, and repurposing them with a wink, a smile and – fairly often – a middle finger. Morgan’s work borrows from the aesthetics of previous eras – including ‘70s psychedelia, ‘80s technology and ‘90s street culture – and drags them firmly up to the present day in new and twisted forms.

Morgan’s Welsh roots occasionally sneak into his work, but his background as both a musician and skateboarder prove to be the strongest inspirations of all, imbuing his art with an authenticity that is instantly recognisable to peers with similar passions. Punk rock nods to the likes of Henry Rollins, The Ramones and Fugazi are present, as well as wise guy cracks about hard rockers like Kiss, Aerosmith and Rolling Stones. Through it all, Morgan is careful to never take himself – or his subjects – too seriously.

Working in an incredibly versatile range of formats – murals, graphic design, skateboard art, paintings and screen prints are all in his wheelhouse – Morgan has built a solid reputation for himself. His work has been featured in exhibitions across the United States, including New York, Atlanta, L.A., San Francisco and Santa Cruz, as well as all over the U.K., Australia and France.

Morgan’s distinctive style has been embraced by a plethora of skate and surf companies (including Vans, Toy Machine, Santa Cruz Skateboards, The Friend Ship Skateboards, Surprise Skateboards, Crayon Skateboards, Lost Surfboards and Cardiff Skateboard Club), but he has also caught the attention of the mainstream, featuring in the Washington Post, Urban Outfitters, Dr. Marten’s and even Coca Cola’s Kiss The Past Hello art book.

In 2015, he released his first printed collection, Hardcore Will Never Die… But You Will, via legendary Los Angeles comic book store, The Secret Headquarters.

Phil Morgan lives and works in is hometown of Penarth, Wales, UK.
